- Clearing the clutter – Does your desk at work and at home need a plow to clear out the space? Take a day and complete the year. Pitch all papers that you have not dealt with and have no intention taking action on. Clear out folders – and the “someday maybe folder” and keep only what sings to you.
- Back up your records before leaving – you never know when IT will decide to change things around. Don’t leave it to them to know what’s important. Flash drives are cheap.
- Take a moment and jot down your intention for this next school year. How do you want to “Be” this next year?
- Collect the books you will really read over the summer. I recommend the following:
Get Organized!: Time Management for School Leaders by Frank Buck
Make the Impossible Possible: One Man’s Crusade to Inspire Others to Dream Bigger and Achieve the Extraordinary by Bill Strickland
The Oz Principle: Getting Results through Individual and Organizational Accountability by Craig Hickman, Tom Smith, and Roger Connors
- Collect any articles you want to read by the pool – yes, keeping up on your professional development is important.
- Set your desk up for what you want your first day to look like.
- Set an intention to enjoy your time off. The office will be waiting for your refreshed, renewed self.
Let this next few weeks be your down time. Let yourself really, really relax. Your staff and students need your most creative, energized self! Have a great summer!
